What is Moldavite?

Moldavite is a rare form of Tektite. Tektites are natural glasses which were formed from cosmic impacts. Moldavites were formed millions of years ago through an astroid impact and they are far more rare than diamonds. These cosmic stones come in a huge variety of shapes, sizes and textures. The colors vary from forest and golden greens, to brown and the rare emerald "poison" green.
Since their rise in popularity in the late 90’s, most of the commercial deposits of Moldavite have been mined out. Genuine Moldavite mostly found in the Czech Republic.

The Origin of Moldavite:

Moldavite, unlike other gemstones and crystals, did form underneath the earth. Moldavite was formed by a massive celestial event 15 million years ago. A large astroid estimated to be around 1 km in diameter struck todays southern Germany and formed "the Ries Crater".
A molten material was ejected into the upper atmosphere. On its way up, the future moldavite stones under went intense heat, tension and centrifugal forces, creating the initial shapes of discs, spheres and other splash forms. In the final phase, the stones cooled rapidly as they fell to earth, in what is today the Czech Republic.

It is estimated only 1% of the initial Moldavites born from this event, survive today. Millions of years of shifting sediments, and natural erosion of the stones have claimed the rest.

Moldavite Power and Metaphysical Meaning:

Moldavite is known as "the stone of transformation", a catalyst to inspire positive change and elevate one’s consciousness to higher levels. Even people who are not particularly sensitive to the energy of stones will often experience the “moldavite flush”. Moldavite often radiates a strong energy just by holding a tiny piece in your hand. Best way to store your jewelry is to keep it in a cloth pouch by itself to avoid tangling and scratches. Keep it away from direct sunlight to prevent any discoloration. To cleanse it use mild soapy water. Avoid using harsh chemicals or ultrasonic cleaners.

Clearing, Cleansing, and Charging Your Crystals and Gemstones:

Crystals absorb or transform the negative energy. By cleansing and recharging you can restore your crystals to their natural state. You can cleanse your loose crystals and crystal jewelry by many cleansing methods depending on what kind of crystal you are cleaning and your intentions.
Best method for cleansing crystals: Use any method that fits best to your practices and your collection of crystals. Usually what feels right to you is the best method.
After cleansing your crystals: Keep them near windows or plants so they can absorb natural healing energy. Place your crystals around your bedroom, living room, office, or any space to best serve your intentions.

How often crystals should be cleansed:

Cleanse all your crystals at least once a month or when you feel their energy starting to feel heavy or dull.

Some of the best methods to cleanse your crystals:

Rinse with water:
You can simply rinse your crystal under a faucet about a minute to cleanse any negative energy. You can use this method for any hard crystals, such as quartz. Not recommended for softer crystals like selenite and kyanite.

Saltwater:
If you’re lucky enough to be by the ocean, you may use a bowl of fresh salty sea water. Or you can mix a tablespoonful of sea, rock, or table salt with a bowl of tap water. Submerge your crystal and soak for a few hours up to a couple days. This method is great for hard stones, such as quartz and amethyst. Don’t use it for soft and porous crystals, or the ones that contain trace metals, such as malachite, selenite, calcite, lepidolite, and angelite.

Brown Rice:
This method is safe for all types of crystals. In a bowl, completely cover your crystals with dry brown rice for 24 hours. After the cleansing dispose the brown rice.

Sunlight:
Sunlight and moonlight can charge and cleanse your crystals. To clean and recharge your crystals in the sunlight, choose the dawn hours since bright sunlight may discolor some crystals such as amethyst and rose quartz. This method rebalances your crystals yin yang energy. While using this method avoid inclement weather since especially the soft stones such as selenite may get damaged.

Moonlight:
Moonlight is a very gentle and won’t damage the color of your crystals. Full moon is very effective since the moon is at its brightest. This method will also recharge your crystals and increase their vibrations. While using this method avoid inclement weather since especially the soft stones such as selenite may get damaged.

Earth:
You can bury your stones underground for a full day. Earth will soak up all the negative energies within the crystals. While using this method avoid inclement weather since especially the soft stones such as selenite may get damaged.

Sage:
Smudge your sage in an abalone or metal bowl and pass your crystals carefully through the smoke few times. We suggest that you smudge outdoors or near an open window to allow the smoke and negative energy to disperse. This method is safe for any crystal.

Sound:
You may use sound cleansing by using chanting, singing bowls or even a bell. This method is ideal for bigger collection of crystals and safe for all kinds of stones.

Cleansing with larger stone:
Large quartz clusters, amethyst geodes, and selenite slabs are great tools for cleansing smaller stones. You can place your crystals inside, right next to or on top of the bigger stones for 24 hours. Vibrations from larger the stone removes unwanted from your crystal. This method is safe for any crystal.

Using other crystals:
Carnelian, clear quartz, and hematite have clearing effects. Place few of these clearing crystals into a bowl and set the crystal you want to cleanse on top of them for 24 hours. This method is safe for any crystal.
